Regent Ramblers is the name of our church walking group which was started over a decade ago by our former assistant minister Graeme Fowles, now the minister of Shore Street Presbyterian Church, Donaghadee.
Its members meet on the first Saturday of every month at 10.15 am from September to June, with the exception of January when the walk might be on the second Saturday.
We began the 22/23 season with a walk at Kearney at the Southern end of the Ards Peninsula. We started walking in light drizzle which soon turned to heavier rain backed up by a strengthening wind, fortunately it wasn’t cold. No one seemed to mind getting soaked especially when we settled into Bestie’s Café at Portavogie Harbour for soup, wheaten bread, tea, coffee and scones. I don’t think anyone ate all of these but we selected from the list.
We had much better weather for October’s walk in the grounds of
Montalto House, Ballynahinch. Our route took us to a viewpoint high above the town where part of the Battle of Ballynahinch was fought. We repaired to the Estate’s café for refreshments. There are always
refreshments on Regent Ramblers walks.
If you wish to join us, make sure you wear boots or good walking shoes and remember that it does rain occasionally so you would be wise to bring a waterproof coat.
The size of our group varies but a dozen would be about average. We normally car share but if you’re uncomfortable with that then you can drive your own car to the meeting point.
